What is Aphasia?

Aphasia is an acquired neurogenic language disorder resulting from an injury or a stroke, typically to the left hemisphere of the brain.

Impairments seen in aphasia are broadly seen under the categories of:
  • Spoken language expression
  • Spoken language comprehension
  • Written expression (Agraphia)
  • Reading comprehension (Alexia)
