Fluency is the aspect of speech production that refers to continuity, smoothness, rate and effort.

Signs of Stuttering:
- monosyllabic whole-word, syllable or part-word repetitions (ex.: how-how are you?)
- prolongation of sounds
- audible or silent blocking
- words produced with excess of physical tension
- secondary behaviours (ex.: distracting sounds, hand movements, etc.)

Signs of Cluttering:
- rapid/ irregular speech rate
- excessive coarticulation
- excessive disfluencies
- unusual prosody
- may be unaware of their disfluencies
